What “authorized reseller” means
An authorized reseller is a business that sells software licenses to customers on behalf of, or with the right to resell, the publisher’s products. For you as a buyer this means a license key you can activate, a clear proof of purchase (your invoice), and a contact you can ask if something does not work.
Resale of software licenses in the EU
In its ruling in the case UsedSoft v Oracle (C-128/11, 3 July 2012), the Court of Justice of the European Union decided that the distribution right for a software copy is exhausted once the copy has been sold with a perpetual license.
